Description

The next frontier towards truly ubiquitous connectivity is the use of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) small-satellite constellations to support 5G and Beyond-5G (B5G) networks. For example, Kepler, Telesat, and Starlink constellations will consist of 140, around 300, and between 12000 and 42000 satellites, respectively.

The starlink type of constellations usually consists of different orbital altitude and inclinations.  It has a multiple orbit-set configuration with some satellites placed in inclined orbits to provide coverage over the more densely populated areas and others located in polar orbits to provide global coverage.

The aim of this project is to simulate the starlink constellation for its coverage analysis, with MATLAB or Satellite Tool Box (STK) Key Objectives

  1. literature review of starlilnk type constellation
  2. define a LEO starlilnk constellation
  3. analyze the coverage performance
