Description The Aerospace Centre of Excellence in the Department of Mechancial and Aerospace Engineering has developed a new concept of systems engineering that allows one to incorporate the principles of relsilience and robustness. The results is a very powerful tool that allows one to design optimal engineering systems that are robust and resilience against uncertainty of different nature. The key modelling approach to systems engineering, in this context, is called Evidence Network Model which translates a complex engineering system into a network. The network model is used to highlight the relationships among subsystems and components and facilitate the study of the optimality and robustness of the system. The goal of this project is to develop a graphical interface that allows the user to build the Evidence Network Model starting from a high level description of the system, and run a design optimisation.   Key Objectives The key objetive and tasks of thsi project are as follows: 1- Starting from the existing prototype of the Evidence Network Model GUI, develop a complete user interface that allows an easy modelling of complex system 2- Study the key pronciples of systems engineering and of resilience based optimisation 3- Interface the GUI with the rest of the software used to optimise complex engineering systems The project requires a good level of programming. The main language will be Matlab but other languages like Python, Java and/or C/C++ can be considered.
