Design and manufacture a rig for testing polymer durability under flow conditions - MO0003 - MO3

Description A subset of materials, including certain polymers and metals, are certified for long-term implanation in human patients, as part of treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. Some of these can be implanted in the bloodstream, for example in arterial grafts and heart valves. In this industrial project, the student will design and manufacture a custom rig for testing the durability of materials in a constantly flowing fluid stream. The project will run in collaboration with a medical device company based in the West of Scotland. Key Objectives

Understand requirements of design and background literature Generate design concepts for key components - agree on best candidate designs with supervisor Test critical components/design concepts - report on findings Create 3D assembly of final design, including material selection Manufacture prototype and perform functionality testing
