Understanding the wear characteristics of bearing surface materials for oil and gas equipment under harsh service conditions - DN0001 - DN1

Description This industry sponsored project arises from a recent failure of a major oil and gas yoke bearing has given rise to the use of functionally graded materials for use in harsh service conditions. Conventional materials come in billets and have varying properties through thickness. There is a need for further undertanding of the mechaicla characteristics of the material and how it performs under a series of experimental tests. Key Objectives To look at the wear characteristics of a series of samples including pin and disc wear test, profilometry, SEM and others depending on the time available - it will be supported by NNPC and an industrial doctorate PhD student.
