Dr Maider Olasolo is the Experimental Officer at the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory (AMRL) housed in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She joined the AMRL in 2018, having previously worked in academia and industry. Dr Olasolo has more than 10 years of experience in the laboratory environment, with a strong background in materials science and metallurgy. She has experience in material characterisation through microscopy techniques (optical, SEM, TEM, EBSD), mechanical testing (toughness, hardness, elastic and plastic properties), thermal measurements and chemical analysis, among other techniques. She has in depth knowledge of steels, covering aspects such as alloyed steels, thermo-mechanical processing and phase transformation. Her PhD analysed the influence of the addition of vanadium and molybdenum in niobium microalloyed steels, the processing route and the subsequent thermal treatment in the mechanical properties of the final product.
